Although the winds kicked up towards the end of the week due to a tropical depression which formed just south of the Sea of Cortez in the Pacific Ocean, the fishing this week was nothing short of spectacular. As you can see from the pictures provided by the East Cape Smokehouse, Tuna was on everyone’s wish list and they did not go home empty handed. The tuna schools were located approximately 45 miles north, north east of hotel Palmas De Cortez. For those who made the 45 mile trip, most were rewarded with limits or close to limits on Yellowfin. The biggest tuna this week was landed by the super panga Rude Baby II with Captain Damian, which weighed just over 180lbs. That tuna came in today as I was writing this report, so I have not seen a picture of it yet. I hope to have a picture of the monster in next weeks report. Other than the great tuna bite, we also had a great billfish bite this week. We had around a dozen blue marlin landed this week, a few striped marlin and over 50 sailfish. Wahoo was also on the menu this week with a few wahoo landed just a short distance off shore from the hotels. A great number of the billfish and wahoo landed this week were caught just 7 miles from the hotels. The dorado bite was down this week, but we did see a few come in between 10-30lbs. Other species that were landed this week included roosterfish, pargo, trigger fish and white bonita.
